Head Coach Jean Everman has coached the Saint Francis de Sales Swim Team for 25 years. All three of her children swam for the team from kindergarten through eighth or ninth grade. When she started to coach 25 years ago there were less than ten swimmers. "We didn't work out as a team until I was able to work out an arrangement with Notre Dame High School to use their pool." Her two sons swam in college, one for USC (going to the NCAA & Olympic Tryouts) and the other one swam for Yale (men's swim team captain).
Coach Jean swam for club teams, high school, and college. Currently she swims five days a week on the SCAQ Master Team at the VNSO pool. She has taught private swim lessons for over 25 years. |

Coach Mike Swander joins the SFDS swim staff for his first year in 2009. Mike’s twin daughters Kat and Louie, swimming in the 7-8 year old age group, are going into their third year of competition for the team. Mike professes, “I learned everything I know about swimming from Coach Larry.” Inspired by Larry, Mike swam in last year’s parent’s relay for SFDS.
While new to coaching swimming, Mike is far from a novice coach. His coaching experience dates back to age 14 when he coached a Boys U10 AYSO team. He has continued to coach Soccer and Basketball over several years and has the coaching philosophy of “Be Positive, Teach, Encourage and Motivate.” |
